The Whitsunday Regional Botanical Gardens is located at Cannonvale Beach adjacent to Pioneer Bay on the Whitsunday Coast. It is unique in that a major portion of the gardens bounds mangroves which presented both opportunities and challenges. WRC engaged Lawrie Smith to develop a masterplan for the WRBG in 2009, which he completed in May 2010. JHLD won the tender to provide detailed documentation for stage 1 of the gardens, which were delivered mid 2011 after an extensive consultation with Council and the Horticultural Reference Group. JHLD was subsequently engaged to oversee the installation of the stage 1 landscape was completed early in 2012.
Scope of works undertaken included:
- Collaboration with Lawrie Smith to interpret his Master Plan.
- Extensive consultation with Council, Horticultural Consultancy Group and other stakeholders.
- Detailed design of all aspects of the landscape.
- Oversee and supervise construction of the project.
